It seems to be a weekly event. Every few days, a major Linux distribution introduces a new type of integration with Amazon Web Services. The usual suspects include Canonical, Red Hat and SUSE. For cloud integrators seeking to link on-premises systems with public cloud services, the Linux-to-Amazon relationships are worth watching closely.
One of the most recent moves involves Red Hat MRG Grid on Amazon Web Services. The effort involves Red Hat Cloud Access, which allows Red Hat …
A post on Microsoft’s official “Building Windows 8″ blog indicates that Microsoft is making its SkyDrive cloud storage platform into a major part of the value proposition for the Windows 8 operating system.
As Microsoft acknowledges, SkyDrive as it exists today is little more than a website where users can put up and take down files – a far cry from the kind of file syncing and versioning that more beloved offerings like Dropbox and Box have slowly made standard…

Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, is extending its reach to workflow management with the launch of Amazon Simple Workflow Service (SWF), targeted at coordinating processing steps in an application and managing the distributed execution state.
“Whether automating business processes for finance or insurance applications, building sophisticated data analytics applications, or managing cloud infrastructure services, Amazon SWF reliably coordinates all of the processing steps within an application,” Amazon’s official blog entry says.

ScaleXtreme, specialist in cloud server management and automation tools, has launched a solution designed to address the problems of patch management in a distributed data center — across the public cloud (Amazon Web Services, VMware vCloud-based platforms and more), virtual machines and physical boxes.
Simply set up a schedule or perform a scan on demand, and ScaleXtreme can determine which physical, virtual or cloud Windows or Linux servers need patching, according to the press release. The …
It was another solid week for the 20 cloud service providers and cloud companies on the Talkin’ Cloud Stocks Index. Indeed, our stock index rose a respectable 1.83 percent for the week ending Feb. 17, 2012 — while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed closer to its former heights amid hopes that Greece would be receiving its long-awaited bailout, NASDAQ lagged behind, and most tech stocks were caught in the middle on both fronts.
Before we take a look at …
Rackspace Hosting has made its first acquisition of 2012 in the form of SharePoint911, a provider of Microsoft SharePoint consulting, training and quick-start services. Between Rackspace’s hosted SharePoint offerings and the addition of SharePoint911 professional services to its portfolio, Rackspace is hoping this combination makes for a one-stop shop for hosted enterprise collaboration. Financial terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed.
According to a Rackspace spokesperson, two of the biggest hurdles to Microsoft SharePoint adoption are difficulties in customization and …
As I hope TalkinCloud readers know, last week our sister site MSPmentor released the 2012 edition of the MSPmentor 100 Top Managed Service Providers. And leave it to Intermedia, the hosted messaging and collaboration service provider that often brags about its channel-friendliness, to offer up its involvement with the announcement that a solid 36 of that 100 (just over a third, for the math-challenged) are Intermedia Private Label Partners.
Intermedia President Michael Gold took to a press release …
Fujitsu System Solutions has launched AppRegion, a cloud operatons management solution designed for Microsoft Windows Azure deployments in the United States. It seems that the Japanese tech titan just can’t get enough Windows Azure in its portfolio.
I’ll be completely square with you guys: Fujitsu’s press release isn’t exactly a shining pillar of coherence, likely due to the language barrier. But what I do understand: Fujitsu AppRegion uses the Windows Azure Management API to deliver “Tenant Management, Application …
