HP‘s (NYSE: HPQ) recently announced HP Public Cloud initiative now has some elements in public beta, with a slew of companies immediately jumping in to offer technologies ranging from applications to mobility to security.

Utility metered cloud company 6fusion announced at the Citrix Synergy conference it has expanded its multi-hypervisor federated cloud to include the Citrix (NASDAQ: CTXS) and Open Source Xen platforms, adding to its existing support for VMware.

With these two announcements, 6fusion customers will be able to build and meter private and public cloud infrastructures with either VMware or Citrix platforms. As I noted in a previous blog, 6fusion’s distribution model is fully focused on its channel partners.

Dell Services (NASDAQ: DELL) announced the first two offers in its newly launched Dell Cloud suite for SAP Solutions. Dell is targeting customers looking to move their SAP infrastructure by offering a set of SAP-certified cloud services in secure hybrid, public or private clouds. According to the Dell release, the SAP Solutions suite provides “the agility to easily integrate legacy applications and enables customers to expand beyond physical resources for ‘just in time’ resource allocation and incremental on-demand capacity.”…

Has Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) decided to drop the “Azure” name from some component services in its billing portal? Some Microsoft customers believe yes, but Redmond is saying no.

What started the latest rumor? Apparently, Microsoft shortened the names of its services in the portal, so now “Windows Azure Compute” will be “Cloud Services,” and “SQL Azure” will be listed as “SQL Database,” for example.

Virtualization and cloud infrastructure specialist VMware (NYSE: VMW) threw a party this month to mark the one-year anniversary of its Cloud Foundry open platform as a service (PaaS) effort.
