Cloud storage company Gluster has announced a new version of its GlusterFS file system, which now supports Apache Hadoop. With this update, Apache Hadoop deployments now can integrate with GlusterFS for object-based storage needs as well as hooking into Hadoop APIs.
More specifically, this Gluster 3.3 beta 2 opens Gluster to large data infrastructure compatibility, with support for storage networks that need to scale into the petabytes. Feature highlights include N-way replication, which allows for both asynchronus and synchronous replication and tracking, POSIX-compliant NAS for directly mounting large amounts of storage, and all-important multiple failover capabilities for demanding high-avabiliability environments. And as always, GlusterFS is open source under the GPL license.
