WANTED Analytics, a firm that tracks business analytics for the talent marketplace, reported that in the last 90 days, recruiters from 2,400 companies posted more than 10,000 online ads looking for candidates with cloud computing chops — a 61 percent increase over the same period last year.

As you may expect, the No. 1 growth area in required cloud skills was computer programming and software engineering. Surprisingly, though, WANTED found that marketing managers, sales managers, customer service representatives and cargo and freight agents all are increasingly expected to have experience with cloud applications.

My new hometown of San Francisco led the pack when it came to urban centers, with “more than 1,000 unique job listings, representing a 95% (sic) year-over-year growth,” according to the press release.

Following behind was Seattle; San Jose, Calif.; Washington D.C.; and New York, with San Jose actually showing a small 12 percent year-over-year decline in number of ads posted. Meanwhile, it seems as though it’s most difficult to fill a cloud role in Washington, as posts there stayed up longer than the national average of 44 days.

Okay, let’s take all this with a grain of salt: This report certainly doesn’t necessarily mean huge cloud growth. But if freight operators are required to have experience with cloud-based applications, it does mean SaaS is hitting the mainstream at an increasing pace. But if you’ve been reading TalkinCloud, you already knew that, right?
