Day in and day out, more users are starting to access cloud software and services from their smartphones and tablets. No doubt, it’s enhancing productivity for a lot of organizations. But it’s also a potential security nightmare – especially when users are using their own personal devices. Enter Symplified Mobile Edition, a new offering that aims to lock down cloud and web apps on any mobile device, regardless of whether it’s administrated by the enterprise.
According to the press release, Symplified Mobile Edition doesn’t require any installation on the mobile device side. Rather, it extends single sign-on (SSO) and identity and access management – Symplified’s bread and butter – to the mobile device by way of a simple “mobile.(companyname).com” portal that lists all the apps the specific user has access to. That means even an employee’s personal device can get to the secure app menu.
The mobile edition works with corporate identities such as those provided by Active Directory, as well as consumer identities managed by Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other OpenID providers. According to Symplified, it’s the first time this kind of access management has come to the mobile landscape.
Symplified is charging $500/month for workgroups of up to 50 users, which includes access to five SaaS apps. Users who don’t want to deal with integrating the two can get help through Symplified’s app catalog of 200 trusted SaaS tools.
With a stated deployment time of days, Symplified’s solution could be worth a look for cloud service providers looking to add some mobility to their portfolio. After all, with execs picking up their own Apple iPhones and BlackBerry Playbooks, demand could be shooting up soon.
