Software-based cloud, physical and virtual networking vendor Vyatta has added former Sun Microsystems Chief Network Officer Geoffrey Baehr to its Board of Directors as the company prepares to boost the cloud side of its business all over the globe.

Baehr’s biggest claim to fame is overseeing Sun’s network strategy for 13 years, with his reign ending in 2000. Ever since, he’s been serving on various and sundry advisory boards for both the public and private sectors alongside industry luminaries such as Microsoft’s Gordon Bell, according to the press release. Officially, Baehr is affiliated with VC firms U.S. Venture Partners and Almaz Capital.

As the newest member of Vyatta’s Board of Directors, Baehr said in a prepared statement that his focus is in the cloud:

“Virtualization and cloud architectures need new datacenter networking solutions, and Vyatta is very well positioned to address this rapidly-growing market. I’m extremely excited to be involved with such an innovative and energetic company and look forward to helping drive it even faster.”

This isn’t the first addition to Vyatta’s senior team this year: Over the summer, the vendor added startup veteran Sheen Khoury as VP of Sales. But apart from a few stray offering enhancements and partnerships, Vyatta’s largely been quiet the last several months. We’ll be watching to see if and how Vyatta builds some channel buzz for itself with these new executives in place.
